Elizabeth Salmon
Elizabeth Salmon is a Professor of International Law at the Faculty of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Professor Salmon is the Director of the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights of the same university (IDEH-PUCP). She is a visiting professor at the University Externado of Colombia and a visiting lecturer at the Annual Study
Session of the International Institute of Human Rights (IIDH). She holds a PhD in International Law from the University of Seville, Spain.
Professor Salmón is currently the Chairperson of the United Nations Human Rights Council Advisory Committee and a Consulting Expert of the Colombian Special Jurisdiction for Peace. She has acted as a consultant to the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Defense of Perú, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Peru, the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). She also participates as a speaker in numerous seminars, conferences, and events around the world.
She is the author of several publications in Public International Law, International Human Rights Law, International Criminal Law, International Humanitarian Law, and Transitional Justice. Professor Salmon has contributed as a peer reviewer to the Commentary on the First Geneva Convention, updated by the ICRC in 2016. Professor Salmon previously served as a member of the Editorial Board of the International Review of the Red Cross (2004-2014); she was a member of the Scientific Committee of the magazine Process Storici e Politiche di Pace, Rome, Italy (2010); member of the Editorial Board of the Faculty of Law at the Universidad del Rosario, Bogotá, Colombia (2015); member of the Editorial Board of the Mexican Yearbook of International Law (2015); member of the International Referees State Law Journal, published by the University Externado of Colombia (2015); and Correspondent du Comité, La Revue des Droits de l’Homme, United Nations Audiovisual Library of International Law www.un.org/law/avl published by the Centre de Recherches et d’Etudes sur les Droits Fondamentaux (CREDOF) of the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre-La Défense (2015).
