Jens Modvig

Jens Modvig is trained as a Medical Doctor and PhD and has used his medical background in the fight against torture for more than 20 years, working for inter alia DIGNITY – Danish Institute Against Torture (formerly RCT) and the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT). He is responsible for the development and implementation of the health component of the Danish National Preventive Mechanism under OPCAT in collaboration with the Danish Ombudsman. In this capacity, he has undertaken numerous visits to institutions where people are deprived of their liberty. Dr. Modvig is currently Clinical Associate Professor in social medicine and rehabilitation at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, as well as the Chief Medical Officer in DIGNITY – Danish Institute Against Torture. He is also a member of the International Forensic Expert Group, working against torture under the auspices of IRCT. In October 2013, Jens Modvig was elected as a member of the United Nations Committee against Torture.
