The United States played a central role in the path to Kosovo's independence, which was declared in 2008 in coordination and with the support of Washington. The USA was among the first countries to recognize Kosovo, on February 18. The 15th anniversary of independence comes as the US and the EU have intensified efforts to normalize relations. But on this anniversary, Kosovo is also perhaps under the greatest pressure ever from its great ally across the Atlantic.
