Hotel Information

Partner Hotel

American University has partnered with Embassy Suites - Chevy Chase Pavilion to provide lodging for all visiting AU guests. The hotel is located on the DC Metro’s historic red line at the Friendship Heights Metro Station. For convenience, the metro station is connected to the hotel on the ground floor. The address for the hotel can be found below:

ARPC is providing shuttle service between the conference hotel and campus.

Room & Rates

All guests who choose to stay at Embassy Suites - Chevy Chase Pavilion will be able to book a 2 Room Suite-1 King Bed at the rate of $229/night. The suite includes a separate living room, sofa bed, two TVs, WiFi, wet bar, refrigerator, microwave, and work desk.

Travel to DC

Air Travel

If you choose to fly into DC you will be able to fly into Washington National Airport (DCA), Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). Please note that BWI will require you to use rideshare or MARC train to access DC while the following airports have access to DC Metro:

  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
    Line: Silver
    Station: Washington Dulles International Airport

Bus & Train

For those who are traveling by intercity bus and train, you will be entering DC’s historic Union Station. Amtrak, DC Metro - Red Line, Maryland Rail Commuter Service (MARC), and Virginia Railway Express (VRE) are the available rail services. For bus and ground transportation, Union Station provides a wide range of options that can be found on their Ground Transportation Page.

Driving Directions

From Baltimore and points northeast

Follow I-95 South and exit onto I-495 West (Capital Beltway). Exit at River Road and turn right. Follow River Road until it ends at Wisconsin Avenue. Turn Right on Wisconsin Avenue and after a few blocks, turn right on Nebraska Avenue. Follow Nebraska Avenue past Ward Circle - this is a corner of American University. At the next light (Nebraska and New Mexico Avenues), to your immediate right there will be a parking garage entrance.

From Dulles International Airport and points west

Follow I-495 North (Capital Beltway) across the Potomac River. Exit at River Road and turn right. Follow River Road until it ends at Wisconsin Avenue. Turn Right on Wisconsin Avenue and after a few blocks, turn right on Nebraska Avenue. Follow Nebraska Avenue past Ward Circle - this is a corner of American University. At the next light (Nebraska and New Mexico Avenues), to your immediate right there will be a parking garage entrance.

From Reagan National Airport and points south:

Follow the George Washington Memorial Parkway to I-395 North across the Potomac River. Exit onto 14th St. Follow 14th St northbound through the city center and turn left on Massachusetts Avenue NW. Follow Massachusetts Avenue for about five miles to Ward Circle — this is a corner of American University. From Ward Circle, go left on Nebraska Avenue. At the next light (Nebraska and New Mexico Avenues), to your immediate right there will be a parking garage entrance.

Visitor Parking

When driving to campus, a valid permit or Pay-As-You-Go is required Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Designated Campus Visit parking passes are provided upon request for guest speakers. Bender Arena is the closest parking area to the venue with additional parking available at Katzen Arts Center, School of International Service Garage, and East Campus Parking Lot. Parking is free on Saturday and Sunday at all parking locations and will not require a permit.

By Metro 

The closest Metrorail station is the Tenleytown-AU stop on the Red line. From the station, you can take the AU shuttle that is located on the corner of 40th St. NW and Ablemarle St. NW, in front of the Wawa.

By Bus

DC Metro Bus routes M4, N2, N4, and N6 stop at the AU main campus near the Katzen Arts Center and/or Ward Circle.
