All students participating in this program will engage in extensive pre-departure orientation activities coordinated by the AU Abroad office. If you have any questions about the program and the study abroad process, please contact Courtney Glover at pollack@american.edu 

As a participant in the Madrid Scholars program, you must have a valid passport that will remain valid 6 months after the end date of the program. Students also will want to make certain that their passport is in good condition, as damaged passports can be refused for use. Students must be 18 years old by June 1st in order to participate in the program. 

U.S. citizens are not required to obtain a visa in advance to study in Spain. The AU Abroad office will walk students through the visa process and students are encouraged to apply at the Consulate in Washington, D.C. Students from other nationalities will be responsible for researching the requirements for their visa and obtaining adequate permission to enter Spain. 

Students should register documented accommodation requests with the American University Academic Support & Access Center (AU ASAC) at (202)885-3360. 

Students will need to fill out the AU Abroad Disability Accommodations Request form and upload their official letter from ASAC in order to receive accommodations in Madrid 

All students participating in Cornerstone Madrid are required to complete all elements of their AU Abroad application in their AU Abroad portal.  Failure to complete and submit any forms to AU may result in removal from the program.

Students are required to maintain US based health insurance while abroad. Students also will be enrolled in AU's emergency medical insurance for international travel. Information on the coverage can be found here.
