The Cohort Experience
Since its beginning in 1980, the AU MSOD program has operated on the cohort model. Students enter as part of a class that takes the same courses together during the entire program. True to our tradition of excellence in experiential education, AU MSOD classes operate as a learning community whose dynamics are woven into the curriculum. In this diverse group, individuals share unique, often intense experiences and challenges that stimulate significant learning.
The cohort learning format offers students invaluable advantages. AU MSOD students live the experience of working extensively as members of a large group and smaller teams. With support from faculty and facilitators through the ups and downs of an intact group over time, they sharpen use of self and their awareness of group dynamics. These experiences parallel their study of the processes of group development and the search for excellence in teamwork. AU MSOD students learn important diagnostic and intervention skills, beginning with giving and receiving feedback to enhance their learning.
Cohort members become life-long friends, colleagues, and advisers, continuing to work together and remain connected long after graduation. Learn more about the diverse career paths that AU MSOD graduates pursue.
